In its bid to improve its winning prospects, the state Congress leadership has decided to woo “neutrals” who will decide the fortunes of any political party in the next general election. The party is implementing Leadership Development Programme (LDP) in 31 Reserved Assembly constituencies to win back the support of alienated sections of electors and has decided to extend the programme to General-category constituencies too. In the first phase, it will be taken up in 30 General constituencies.
Under the Leadership Development Mission in Reserved Constituencies in the 31 Reserved constituencies, a team of 12 party workers at polling booth level regularly gathers the data of each voter by undertaking door-to-door visits. They collect information on voters’ preferences for parties, local caste equations, and the strengths and weaknesses of Congress candidates in the respective constituency. The information so gathered is then stored in the data bank at Gandhi Bhavan, the PCC headquarters, here.
After identifying the ‘neutrals’, who are not loyal supporters of any political party, from the gathered data, the party leaders will frequently visit their homes to lure them back to the Congress side. “We have even launched an App for this purpose. Through this App, the party leadership is making calls to ‘neutrals’ to explain to them about the failures of the TRS government and to request them to vote for the Congress this time. We are getting a good response from neutral voters,” TPCC leader H Venugopala Rao, in charge of the Leadership Development Programme, told KhabarLive.
Though this action plan was a copy of a similar programme held during Punjab Assembly elections, Venugopala Rao said the AICC leadership was satisfied with the response the TPCC was getting from people in the 31 Reserved constituencies. Hence, the Congress high command’s direction to the state
Congress to implement the programme in General-category constituencies too.Further, TPCC leaders have been asked by the AICC leadership to make a PowerPoint presentation before party president Rahul Gandhi on how the LDP programme is being implemented in the state. #KhabarLive
