Telangana TDP Demanding 30 Alliance Seats From Congress In Mahakootami Talks In The Polls!

The talks on the formation of Maha Kootami or grand alliance in Telangana seem to have hit the road block with the Telugu Desam Party demanding at least 30 assembly seats from its alliance partner the Congress in the coming elections.

While the TDP wants to contest in all the 15 seats it had won in 2014, it is demanding allocation of another 15 seats where it came in the second position in the last elections.

In fact, the TDP initially thought of asking for 45 seats, but finally shorted listed 30 potential seats.

According to party sources, TDP president and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu who is in the USA, has been in touch with the party leaders in Telangana on seat-sharing.

He reportedly told them to do hard bargaining since the party has to regain its hold in Telangana.

The TDP is hopeful of reviving its base in Hyderabad and other districts, including Khammam.

The TDP has already launched its election campaign from Uppal constituency well before it was officially allotted for any political party as part of the Mahakutami adjustment.

T Veerender Goud, son of the TDP MP, T Devendra Goud, launched a door-to-door contact programme in the constituency ahead of the finalisation of seat-sharing among the Mahakutami parties.

However, the Congress is not willing to part with more than 29 seats for the entire alliance. It vehemently told the alliance partners that it has to contest in at least 90 seats, if it has to win the absolute majority in the assembly.
