It’s rare to have a penchant for the arts and a keen mind for business. But Cheryl D’Souza has proved that she has it all by stepping into the world of entrepreneurship with the same passion as she did in the field of music. D’Souza was recently felicitated at the Outstanding Women Awards Summit 2018, held in Hyderabad, in the categories of music and business.
She says, “I started my career with a leading IT firm as a finance trainee. Soon, I realised I wanted to do more. So, I decided to study further and completed my specialisation in financial planning.”
But when did music become a part of the equation? “I come from a typical Catholic family. One day, on a whim, I happened to perform a song at a cafe and the people around loved it. So, I started doing a few shows here and there.”
It was her shows and preparing for them that gave her the idea for her fashion start-up. Cheryl says, “I had to upgrade the clothes and accessories I wore for my gigs. And I realised it was quite an expensive affair. And I kept wondering how do people afford to keep up with ever-changing fashion trends.
So, I found myself a supplier who would give me a wholesale rate and a lot of people around me found that fascinating. They loved the designs. And being a curious cat, I eventually figured out the production mechanism behind an online shop.” #KhabarLive
