A controversial bill of Rs 3.6 crore for egg puffs has ignited a fresh political battle between Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and opposition leader N. Chandrababu Naidu. The bill, allegedly linked to Naidu’s tenure, is now under scrutiny, deepening the ongoing rivalry between the two leaders.
Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy is under scrutiny for alleged extravagant spending on snacks during his tenure. A heated exchange has erupted between the ruling TDP and the YSRCP over the expenses incurred by Reddy’s office. The TDP claims that the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) spent a staggering INR 3.62 crores on egg puffs over the past five years.
Reports suggest that the CMO’s annual expenditure on these snacks averaged INR 72 lakhs, equating to a daily consumption of 993 egg puffs. Over the entire five-year period, this amounts to 18 lakh egg puffs. These revelations have sparked serious concerns about the potential misuse of public funds during Reddy’s administration.
The issue surfaced when the TDP government led by Chandrababu Naidu initiated a thorough investigation into the financial irregularities of the previous administration. The “Egg Puff Scandal” has intensified political tensions in the state. Under Jagan’s tenure, other controversies had already fueled debates, including excessive spending on his security, the construction of the Rushikonda Palace, and the use of special planes and helicopters for personal purposes.
However, these accusations have been dismissed by the YSRCP calling it a fake propaganda. YSRCP supporters alleged that the ‘egg puff scandal’ is a deliberate attempt by the TDP to damage Jagan and the party’s reputation. YSRCP supporters dubbed the latest controversy as ‘fake news’ and further alleged that the previous TDP government spent Rs 8.5 crore on snacks for former Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and his son, Lokesh, between 2014 and 2019.
The TDP swiftly responded, labelling the YSRCP’s allegations as baseless and fabricated. The TDP’s social media wing took to various platforms to debunk the claims, accusing the YSRCP of spreading fake news to distract from the real issue of Jagan Mohan Reddy’s alleged financial mismanagement. #hydkhabar
