Former Telangana Minister KT Rama Rao condemned the Congress government, questioning why children were forced to eat rice with chilli powder due to bland dal. He took to social media to express his outrage, highlighting the scrapping of a breakfast scheme launched by the previous KCR government.
“Is this the kind of atrocious food our school children deserve Telangana CM?? KCR government had launched a wonderful breakfast scheme for school children that Congress Govt has scrapped for no good reason. Now we see these kinds of reports, which are shocking. Request the Telangana CS to review the situation across all schools at the earliest,” KTR tweeted.
Former Telangana Health Minister Harish Rao also criticised the Congress government, saying the incident reflects the negligent attitude of Revanth Reddy’s government.
The incident occurred on August 2 when the mid-day meals’ agency served the students with rice mixed with chilli powder and oil. The images of rice with chilli powder went viral on social media, prompting the district education officer to conduct an inquiry into the matter.
Several parents complained that their kids suffered stomachache and fell sick.
Following the parents’ complaints, the Nizamabad DEO N Durgaprasad, mandal education officer (MEO), headmaster of Complex School and other officials visited the school and conducted an inquiry.
One of the teachers of the school reportedly told the inquiry officials that many students dumped the food claiming it to be “bland and unappetising”.
Later, when more students arrived to have their lunch, they were served rice along with chilli power and oil by the mid-day meal agency.
Upon learning about the matter, the district education officials gave a stern warning to the meals service providers and directed them to not compromise on the quality of food. #hydkhabar
